Nordic folklore has it that if a child suffered from either a physical or mental handicap, it was believed to be a “bytting”, the offspring of “underworld creatures” who had exchanged their own infant for a human child.
The “bytting” would then be burned, drowned or tortured to death under strict orders from the Church..

BYTTING - Svart Depresjon

Formed in 2008 by VRAGVOLD founders, guitarist VRAG (BLÅPUNG) and bass player SVARTRAVN ( SVARTRAVN SORGTUNG, ex DECREPITUS), BYTTING is a two-man project that takes as one of it’s influences Norwegian folk music, and twists it into dark, forbidding and disturbing songs. It’s a journey through the nightmares that inhabit the minds of these two young Norwegian musicians.
